November Chapter Meeting
The Portland Chapter of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC Portland Chapter) invites all design professionals, consultants, and contractors practicing in the roofing, waterproofing and building enclosure fields to attend our Chapter Meeting & Educational Presentation on Redefining the Wildfire Challenge, Taking Action to Support Fire Safe Buildings with Science-Backed Research and Practical Retrofitting and Construction.
In a hotter, drier world, we are seeing increased wildfires with a 246% increase in building and community loss. Researchers have crash tested buildings and determined what we need to do to prepare for fast moving fires. This session will help bring understanding to the key elements and requirements for building & retrofitting to be wildfire prepared.

Speaker: Ralph Bloemers, Green Oregon, Director of Fire Safe Communities
For over 20 years, Ralph Bloemers has worked with scientists, tribes, conservation groups throughout the Pacific Northwest on the conservation of forests, including burned landscapes. He has worked with firefighters to investigate the causes of fires, documented wildlife and recovery in burned landscapes, and worked to help communities prepare for more fire in a hotter, drier world. He is the Executive Producer of Elemental, Reimagine Wildfire, an attorney who is expert in land use, forest and wildfire law & policy and an advisor to Oregon legislators on wildfire policy.
During this Chapter Meeting, which includes dinner, the educational presentation, and networking time, we will also be a voting for the 2025 IIBEC Portland Chapter’s Executive Board of Directors and issuing 2024 Year End Awards.
With this event we will also be holding a Canned Food Drive to stock Holy Trinity’s Food Pantry.
